І шо тут ще цікаво - я був подумав, що це у 19 столітті в англійській було правило писати іменники з великої літери, як зараз в німецькій, а також і числівники. Та воно якось хитріше, бо деякі іменники, як от dine, hive, sea та інші написані з маленької. Напевно це з великої пишуться дійові особи цієї сумної історії - Little Niggers, Red Herring... але тоді чому big Bear?

One Little Nigger, with his dear little wife,
Lived many years a happy little life.

Якщо цей оптимістичніший варіант і здійсниться, то триватиме не довго, бо wife написано з малої літери тому, мабуть, що жіночого роду. Для One Little Nigger дружина (жінка) не є суттєвою дійовою особою в його житті. Happy little life буде лише тоді, коли слова Dear Little Wife писатимуться з великої літери і не лише на папері!..

Інакше найоптимістичніший варіант такий:

One Little Nigger living all alone:
He got married, and then there were none.
